On Monday, June 12, 2023, Ruben Richmann, one of the Children of Selvino, died in Montreal.
He was born in 1932 in a small Polish town, today Belarus, 100 km from Vilnius.
He was the only Holocaust survivor of his entire family. He had been welcomed in Selvino in the house of Sciesopoli at the age of just 14.

In the photo the Hebrew teacher in Selvino for the greetings of the new year 1948 . In Sciesopoli Ruben Richmann celebrated the first Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur after the start of the war.

He then emigrated to Canada in 1948 to an uncle of his mother Philip and his wife Ida. Here he grew up and was successful in life and work until he retired in 2020.
He was a man of integrity, wisdom, generosity and compassion.
He was held in high esteem by his loved ones, friends, colleagues and, in some cases, complete strangers.

For sixty-seven years he was a devoted and adored spouse of Pauline (Pessie) Hershcovitch whom he married in 1955 with whom he had three children.
He is a loving father of three children: Rhona with Michael, Howard with Vie, and Gary with Anat.
He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Gavin, Daniel, Emily, Alizée, Zachary, Alex, Matthew, Andra, Tavia, Anthony, Olivier, Liane and Alexa.
He enjoyed his great-grandchildren, Blake, Liam and Ryder, who gave him so much pleasure.

Reuben RichmanIn 1998 he had returned to Selvino, together with his wife, to see the house in Sciesopoli. who had seen him reborn to a new life, a 13-year-old boy who had lost everything.

He was a close friend of Israel Magid, another Child from Selvino, who also emigrated to Montreal where he died in 2004.
With all the Children of Selvino still alive, we are close to the family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in our grief for the loss of Ruben Richmann and we want to remember him with love.
