ANNIVERSARIO OF “SCIESOPOLI” (1945 – 2015)

Days have passed,
and years too,
much snow has fallen on the paths
of the immense park,
and a thousand autumn leaves
have caresses the loneliness
of those old walls.

Rain like tears has beaten
against the blank windows
that still tremble
at the cold January wind.

The great Palace is still there
just a little behind our memories,
empty shell
of found and lost lives.

People have passed,
and their story too,
many children have flown beyond the blue,
beyond the time

Of them only the eyes
still glow
through the yellowed photographs,
an aged frame as shield
against the Horror.

Sciesopoli offers its past,
torn till the heart wounded
by the barbed wire,
shadows and lights
that recall the children’s desires
on the scarred inside walls.

Down there, on Life’s hollow arch,
trembles a new day
to be built together,
the hands of a thousand little hearts
always tangled.

(AURORA CANTINI)
