Moshe Aran

Moshe was born in Romania in 1931. During WWII Moshe was in his hometown Iasi. As all Jews, he was forced to wear a yellow star and witnessed the pogroms that took place in the city, which were of the worst the Jews of Eastern Europe had suffered.
In August 1944, his father was killed in a Russian bombing.
Moshe was the one that found him dead in the street, and as he said later “at that exact moment my childhood had finished”
As a member of the Zionist youth movements “Bnei Akiva”, Moshe absorbed Zionist values ? and the will to immigrate to Israel.
After the war, the members of the “Bnei Akiva” movement wanted to immigrate to Israel and Moshe decided to join them even though he was only 13 years old. Immediately after his “Bar Mitzvah” he began his wanderings through Hungary, Yugoslavia to Italy, There he was gathered with his team mates and with other hundreds of rescued Jewish children to a special children home called “Sciesopoli” in Selvino.
In this house which was run by members of the “Jewish brigade” (Jewish soldiers unit in the British army) they began recover physically and mentally from the horror of the war.

In the winter of 1947 he was trying to come to Israel in the ship “Chaim Arlozorov”. But, The British authorities intercepted the ship, and the immigrants were deported to Cyprus.
A year later Moshe and his group, immigrated a second time to Israel and they began a farmer training program in Kibbutz Ramat David. A year later they moved to Kibbutz Ze’elim.

The short period in Ramat David near the airbase influenced him and he dreamed to be a pilot. Unfortunately he had drafted the first battalion of the Palmach. Only later, with much effort, he joined the Israeli air force.
In 1952 Moshe began his pilot training, and upon graduation he was stationed in the flight transport squadron called “Flying Camel” – the first squadron in the Air Force – and served as a training officer.
During his duty he participated in two well-known operations “Snunit” and “Yarkon”.

Upon retiring from the army in late 1958, Moshe turned to agriculture in Kfar Vitkin, and was trained as chick sexer. (distinguish the sex of chicks is done for agricultural and economic reasons) He also has been certified as a flight instructor for civilian aviation, in which he worked until 2002.
Since 1959 Moshe lives in Michmoret. He was involved in public activities as a Council member of Emek Hefer, Chairman of the Association and treasurer of Michmoret.
