Our dear mother Sarah Spiegel (maiden name Kessel).

Sarah was born in 1935 in Dubienka, a small town in Poland.

In 1939 at the age of four she fled with her parents and brother to the Ukraine after the Nazi invasion, and from there was deported to Siberia, where they lived in a kolkhoz. After many wanderings and suffering, her family came to Uzbekistan where her sister was born.

After the end of World War II, her family returned to Poland – to the city of Ziębice in Lower Silesia (Dolenschluss).

In 1946, she and her brother, the late Avraham Kessel, joined Gordonia Movement and after a long journey throughout  Europe, arrived in Selvino, Italy, where they stayed as part of the 8th youth group, which was the last to leave the children’s home, and immigrated to Israel on the ship “Theta” on November 7th, 1948.

Sarah reunited with her family in Israel, later she met the late Zeev (Wolf) Spiegel whom her family knew from their hometown and they got married in 1955.

Sarah worked at a Health Maintanace Organization. When her eldest daughter – Rachel – was born, she left her job and dedicated her life to her family and children who were the entire world for her. They had two more children, a daughter Tzipi and a son Yossi.

Sarah was a fascinating conversationalist, had a young spirit, spoke many languages, and was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren. Sarah suffered from many illnesses but went on with her life and was the head of the family. In the last three years she lost her husband and middle daughter. Despite of her suffering she went on with her life, but in the end her heart could not stand it anymore and she passed away on July 15th, 2020.

May her memory be blessed.
